“Egg”stra, “Egg”stra, Read All About It!

Last week, we a ”egg”cellent time studying eggs. We investigated the life cycles of the frog, butterfly, and chiken, completed several “egg”speriments, and completed our egg projects. Please stop by and view the projects right outside our classroom. A special thanks to Mrs. Cianfarano for helping with our sculptures.

Why won't my egg spin? It's Raw!

The children did great today for pictures and the live bunnies were a big hit. I couldn’t resist taking a class picture of them in their “fancy” clothes!

Last week our class visited the Dhillon’s dental office and we had a fabulous time. Their favorite part was chewing a pink tablet that showed the children where they had brushed well and needed to brush more. They also loves the motorized chair and trying on the mask and gloves. We learned lots of great information and it was a fabulous way to kick off our study of keeping our bodies healthy! Thank you to the Dhillon’s and their staff for a fabulous trip!

Snow and Mr. Clint

We have had another exciting week in kindergarten. The children loved watching the snow fall last Tuesday. It led to two impromptu lessons. The first was discovering the answer to the question, “Why isn’t it sticking?” After a little research, we discovered it just wasn’t cold enough. The second lesson led us on a 5 senses walk. The children investigated the snow using their 5 senses, and then came inside to write about what they saw, heard, smelled, touched, and tasted. Tasting the snow was the most fun!

On Thursday, Mr. Clint came to tell us a little more about himself, and to read us the book, Duck for President. The children did a great job enhancing their questioning skills and being a good audience. They loved the book!

We’re Back!

We have returned safely from our travels around the world! We had a fabulous time on our journey and learned so much along the way. During the final leg of our trip, we especially enjoyed a visit with Sammi’s mom where we learned more about the landmarks, culture and traditions of India. Our final stop in Africa, gave us some hair raising experiences as we discovered the many ferocious animals of the African grasslands. But, we made is through safely with no injuries to report. As last we are home again, where we were able to defeat the parents at the 3^rd Annual Quiz Bowl 42 to 3! Better luck next year!

BRRR! It’s Cold Down Here!

We had a fabulous time exploring the bottom of the Earth, Antarctica! There wasn’t much to see, except for a lot of ice and a little rock. The children were fascinated to learn that people can freeze in 30 seconds in -130 degree weather. We had a great time making blubber hands to discover how the Arctic animals stay warm. We also investigated icebergs and learned that we only see about 11% of the iceberg above the water. Our final experiment taught us that the salt in the ocean keeps it from freezing.

Salt keeps the ocean from freezing.However, if the salt becomes diluted with water, the water will refreeze!

Our World Tour

After returning from Christmas break, the children packed their bags, got their passports in order, and headed south to a land of rainforest, plains, desert, and ice. Yes, we went to South America. We visited the Amazon Rain Forest, Atacama Desert, Andes Mountains, and Machu Picchu. Climbing Machu Picchu was hard work, but working as a relay team we made it to the top! We were fascinated by the animals we saw along the way. However, the weather puzzled us for a moment. How could the northern part of the continent be so hot, while the southern portion is so cold? BRRR! It wasn’t long before we discovered the answer and bundled up even more to head farther south. See you at our next stop! Can you guess where we are headed?
